Lanta Bank

A new website, ongoing support, and SEO promotion for a federal bank with a rich history.
17.05.2023
Goal
Improve the search rankings of the coin catalog.

We began working on promoting the coin catalog at the end of February 2020.

The main goal was to bring the website pages to positions where they could compete with large online stores. From an SEO perspective, the key challenge was that individual coins on lanta.ru were implemented via pop-ups. This approach puts the website at a disadvantage compared to specialized platforms that feature individual product pages for each coin.

In the first stage, we focused on three regions: Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Novosibirsk.
  • We collected the semantic core and used it to create dedicated coin catalog sections.
  • We optimized meta tags for the promoted pages.
  • We analyzed competitor content and, based on that, created copywriting briefs for each section.
  • We enhanced the pages by adding subsections to attract medium-frequency search traffic (e.g., investment coins, gold coins, silver coins, etc.).
Next, we began working on external ranking factors:
  • Conducted an analysis of competitors’ backlink profiles.
  • Developed a strategy for building external links.
  • Started increasing high-quality backlinks of various types: mentions in articles, reviews, and comments on third-party websites.

With each passing month, more and more search queries reached TOP positions in Yandex and Google. SEO is a long-term game — results don’t happen overnight, but once achieved, they can be solidified and maintained.

After six months, the SEO efforts for Novosibirsk and Saint Petersburg were paused, and the focus shifted to other regions. The results for Novosibirsk during this period are shown on the graph.

However, continuous SEO work for Moscow remains in place due to the high competition in the region, which requires constant attention from SEO specialists.

Later, we began promoting the coin catalog in three new regions: Irkutsk, Abakan, and Krasnoyarsk.

A key feature of the regional promotion in this project is the implementation of cities using subfolders (not subdomains).

Thanks to the bank’s branches in these cities, we were able to verify the regions in Yandex.Webmaster via Yandex.Business.

In addition to working on the promoted sections, we also had to address host-level factors — these influence the ranking of the entire domain rather than individual sections.

Of course, we also encountered challenges during the project.

Issues arose at different stages and were often unexpected. Our SEO specialists and technical experts responded promptly to resolve problems and stabilize the website.

  • One critical issue was the sudden appearance of numerous duplicate pages with GET parameters — some useful, some not. Since it was impossible to automate filtering, we manually identified the unnecessary parameters and blocked them from indexing selectively.
  • Another problem appeared when downloadable documents were unexpectedly removed from the public website. This triggered soft 404 errors — pages that no longer existed still returned a 200 (OK) server response instead of the correct 404 error. Search engines penalize such issues, as crawling these pages wastes the crawl budget.
  • In April and May 2022, the website became the target of DDoS attacks. Our tech support team stepped in to protect the site, successfully mitigating the attacks. However, the website’s search visibility dropped during this time. Once the issue was resolved, rankings and visibility returned to normal.

We continue to analyze and adjust our external SEO strategy every month.

Today, Lanta Bank’s website ranks competitively against major online coin retailers.

We continue promoting the site using a pay-for-performance model.

This is how our SEO team typically works: you don’t pay for hours or tasks — you pay only for top search engine rankings. Learn more about this service.
